About

Susan Golden’s mission is to help people understand how we interact with our shared home, the Earth.  To that end, she speaks to groups about current environmental issues and works with businesses and nonprofit organizations to improve their sustainable practices.

Susan has met with thousands of people in the Northeast region, and continues to reach all types of groups with her talks. She has also delivered environmental workshops at national conferences. Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, her sphere of influence has expanded through virtual workshops and she has interacted with groups all over the world - from Europe to Asia, from Africa to Australia.

Susan’s efforts also extend beyond speaking.  Currently, she serves on the board of the Hackensack Riverkeeper and was an officer of the board of the Tenafly Nature Center. She is also a past chairperson of her local environmental commission.  Susan has dedicated hundreds of hours developing curriculum for schools and informal educational programs for various organizations, and also helps businesses reduce their environmental footprint and meet their sustainability goals

Susan continues to study our environment by attending conferences and classes as well as through independent research.  She has completed the Rutgers Environmental Stewards Certification Program, became an En-ROADS Ambassador for Climate Interactive, and in 2023, she completed the Education for Sustainability micro-certificate program at the University of Vermont.

Background:

Susan earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Dartmouth College where she majored in Engineering Sciences and then went on to work for several years in the private sector.  After taking a break to raise a family in Washington (state), she decided to become a high school science teacher.  She returned to school to earn a Masters of Arts Degree in Teaching and earned a Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Physics and General Science.  She spent the next 13 years in classrooms in Washington state and New Jersey teaching a variety of math and science classes.

It was when Susan began teaching Environmental Science that she realized too many people do not know enough about the world in which we live.  Many people do not understand how our communities interact with nature. Consequently, it became Susan’s passion to inform people about the impacts that society has on the environment so that we can make the smartest choices now and for future generations.  She started by attending a training session with Climate Reality Project Leadership Corps in 2017, and since then she has created numerous informative presentations, workshops, and both formal and informal curriculum that she regularly delivers to schools and community groups.
