En-ROADS Climate Simulator Activities

Workshop, Role-Play, Assignment

En-ROADS is a simulator calibrated to research climate models. It allows users to create scenarios of different degrees of global warming by “enacting” policies and actions in several sectors: energy, transport, building and industry, growth, land use, and carbon removal. This simulator allows users to see which actions will generate the most impact and how the policies will interact with each other.  It has been used by decision makers around the world.

Workshop

The En-ROADS Climate Workshop can be run for both in-person and online audiences. In the workshop, participants propose climate solutions and the facilitator then tests these approaches in the En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator, so participants can see the impact on global temperature and other factors.

Role Play

In this activity, participants pretend to engage in a UN Summit on climate change and attempt to achieve the goals of the Paris Accord through proposals and negotiations.  The participants are organized into groups representing 5 stakeholders: world leaders, climate justice hawks, clean energy technologies, conventional energy, and industry and commerce.   The role playing game is more fun with teams and it is recommended for use with 10-50 people.

Assignment

There are assignments available to teachers who would like to introduce their students to the En-ROADS simulator.
